Advanced Rider Course

The RoSPA advanced riding course will show you how to:

  • Apply cornering skills

  • Assess, plan and execute safe overtakes

  • Recognise opportunities to make safe progress

  • Improve observation, anticipation and planning consistent with vehicle speed

  • Apply sound judgement of speed and distance

The course is conducted by highly qualified and experienced tutors on a 1 to 1 basis. It is highly unlikely that anyone will gain a good grade without knowledge of the current editions of the Highway Code and Motorcycle Roadcraft. Copies of both will be supplied to you on joining.

At the end of the course you can take a test which is conducted by a Police Advanced certificate holder. They will grade your ride and complete a comprehensive written report on your performance.

The RoSPA award consists of Bronze (advanced standard), Silver and Gold.

There are five training sessions, followed by a mock assessment prior to the formal test. These sessions cover:

  • Assessment of current riding and introduction to core skills

  • Core riding skills, 'The System', corners and bends

  • Urban riding

  • Motorways and dual carriageways

  • Consolidation ride

  • Mock Test

  • Advanced Test with a RoSPA examiner.

If you're unsure whether you want to take the course, we are happy to arrange for one of our tutors to take you out for a taster ride. Just contact us and we will allocate a tutor near you to arrange it. To cover the fuel and wear and tear on the tutor's bike, we charge £15 for taster sessions which can be paid directly to the tutor on the day, or via our Treasurer.

Our Group Philosophy

"Be The Best You Can Be"

The course training is designed to help you achieve advanced rider standard. Although this is a prestigious achievement, we believe that it is just the start of the journey towards complete mastery of your bike. You can continue to grow and develop as a rider through involvement with the group, contact with other advanced riders, frequent ride outs and events, and continued training for Group Tutor and Advanced Group Tutor. Our group encourages a commitment to continuous development and a desire to be the best you can be.

Learning is a journey not a destination.

Tutors

All of our tutors must be RoSPA Gold standard riders.

Group Tutor

Our training for group tutors is in-house by our Advanced Tutors and covers coaching on how to deliver the advanced rider course, followed by monitoring with an associate, prior to sign-off as a Group Tutor.

Advanced tutor

For those who want to develop further we train them to prepare for the Advanced Tutor test which is undertaken by a RoSPA Examiner.
